Renewable energies represent an essential pillar of sustainable future scenarios. However, with more and more decentralized generation facilities for renewable energies, such as wind turbines, photovoltaic panels or biogas plants, energy production is also becoming more and more present in the urban landscape. The vast majority of the German population supports the expansion of renewable energies. However, concrete expansion projects on site are often rejected and in some cases actively obstructed. One of the most important reasons for the local rejection of concrete expansion projects is the aesthetics of the plants and their impact on the cityscape and landscape.
Within the research field Shaping the Energy Transition, we are taking an in-depth look at the aesthetic design of renewable energy plants and their social acceptance. For the energy sources sun, wind and biomass, individual and context-specific concepts for a socially accepted integration of energy production plants in urban and rural areas will be developed.
