This module includes three lectures: Landscape Planning and Architecture, Planning Theory and Urban Development, and History of the City. Historical and current basics are taught to understand the city and landscape in their development and, based on this, to actively design and steer them.

The following topics are the focus:

  • spatial concepts, spatial perception and spatial scales
  • Trends and drivers of urban and landscape development
  • Phases and concepts of urban development
  • Overview of landscape and open space structures
  • Actors with their intentions, interests and influences on spatial development
  • Problems and tasks arising from historical and current developments for urban and landscape planning
  • Tasks and possibilities of action of urban and landscape planning
  • Processes, methods and instruments of their control
