According to current forecasts, more than 80% of the world's population will live in urban agglomerations in 2030. Even in polycentrically structured Germany, regional development has gained increasing importance since the industrialization phase. The region as a planning and action level and as an experimental space for networked spatial development - is also of great importance for contributions to mastering the major global challenges of our time.
In the seminar on urban and regional planning, we will first deal with the constitutional foundations of spatial planning in Germany. In this context, we will acquire knowledge about spatial planning in North Rhine-Westphalia and get to know the methodology and procedures of spatial planning in some other federal states.
Subsequently, we will acquire knowledge about informal plans, programs and formats such as IBA, regional or agglomeration concepts. In doing so, we will address the question of how spatial development in a broader sense can also be seen as an expression of social relations and ask ourselves what possibilities informal cooperation offers for dealing with challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, land consumption for settlement purposes or industrial agriculture, growing pains or shrinking pains.
These and other topics will be addressed interactively in the seminar.
