‘Cultural Heritage in global and European policies’
Guest lecturer: Dr. Azadeh Arjomand Kermani - TU Delft - Department of AE&T / Heritage and Values
This lecture is consist of two major sections. The first section is discussing a general background of urban conservation In the global scale. A short history of urban conservation, urban conservation as international public policy and discussing the HUL approach and SDGs. In this section I will also cover UNESCO role in Heritage conservation such as World heritage committees and WHCs.
In the second section, the focus will be on European scale. This section will cover cultural heritage in EU policies and initiates such as European Capitals of Culture and European Heritage Label. The European Parliament has adopted resolutions highlighting the dangers from which cultural heritage is to be protected both in the EU and the world, the protection of cultural heritage, including traditional crafts, and the role of cultural heritage in sustainable tourism. The lecture will give you a background introduction to this vast and broad subject and inspire you in your future study and career.
Azadeh Arjomand Kermani is researcher in the chair Heritage and Values at TUDelft, The Netherlands. Before Doing her PhD at TUD, she was affiliated to Art University of Tehran, Iran and Siegen University, Germany. Her research interests concern the impact of urban planning and governance reform on the historic built environment and intangible cultural heritage, and development of value assessment frameworks for historic urban areas and buildings, and providing a basis for conservation. She is co-supervisor of master and PhD students, conducting research and lecturing in several courses in the field of Heritage Planning, Landscape-based approaches, Spirit of Place / Place-making / Genius Loci.
