MakerSpace Düren
The former tank regiment's barracks are located on the edge of the city of Düren. Currently, it is used by a car repairer mainly as a parking lot. This area, as a large, sealed surface, acts as a separating element between social groups. The potentials of the innovative industries and the surrounding nature are not used properly.
With our Maker
The MakerSpace is a place for self-production and learning from each other, a place for the presentation and communication of ideas, products, works and skills. It is resilient through local production and collaborative building. It also opens up freely playable indoor and outdoor spaces.
Along a sequence of places, each dedicated to a theme such as art or craft, there are residential buildings, collaborative workshops and coworking spaces, as well as buildings for small-scale enterprises.

Bird's-eye View
The rendering shows the overall context of the MakerSpace from a bird's eye view. The redesigned city entrance supports Düren in its role as a promising innovation center.

Update Garden City
The task was to work out ideas and measures for the development of a new neighborhood on the former barracks site on Stockheimer Strasse in Düren and to design a suitable urban structure with open space qualities.
As the title "Update Gartenstadt" already reveals, we looked at Howard's historic garden city concept and reinterpreted it using current trends. With the historic concept, we adopted the aspects of self-sufficiency, green planning, and social community. On this basis, we have developed a differentiated green concept, a self-sufficiency concept, a car-free mobility concept, and a neighborhood app. Unlike Howards, however, we do not aim for a separation of uses but rather a mix of uses.
In addition to the garden city concept, we have oriented ourselves to the following guiding principles: Neighborhood and Community, Local Supply and Local Value Creation, Green Infrastructure, and CO2 Neutrality.

Apartment Block Perspective
The rendering illustrates the view into the courtyard of an apartment block. It includes private gardens/terraces and a central semi-public and community-enhancing green space.

The Bendplatz is located in the north of the city of Aachen in a valley between Königshügel and Lousberg. Except for a seasonal use as a funfair - the "Öcher Bend" - and as a parking lot, it lies fallow the rest of the year. Together with the new Campus West as an extension of the RWTH Aachen University and the Masterplan 2030 for the restructuring of the urban region, the area around the Bendplatz is given a new meaning.
Within the scope of our task, we first had to examine and analyze the Bend and the surrounding areas for various aspects. Using the gained knwoledge as a basis we designed a concept to assign a new function to the Bendplatz, to connect it and its immediate surroundings more intensively with the neighboring areas and to achieve an urban upgrading of the quarter. The design refers in particular to a new interpretation of urban production, urban agriculture, and the concept of "short distances" along with vertical stacking and greater intermixing of uses.

Perspective
The picture shows an atmospheric impression of the rib-like building structure on Bend Square. The varying heights of the roofs create a new urban level. Punctual residential towers and greenhouses stand out from the lower buildings.

Bend-Up
Our Project Bend-Up is the approach of introducing a new player into the existing surrounding structure: start-ups. By sharing the desire for innovation and the power to shape everyday urban life, a start-ups focus has the potenital to reactivate and innovate the city.
A green belt not only constructs the space for communication and interaction, but also reacts to the composition of buildings with different sizes, hights and functions, from co-working hubs to residential blocks and fabrication labs

Master plan and key design principles
The concept creates a meeting place, which connects the different functions of university, industry and residential areas. Further, the urban green landscape connects enclosed parks, creating a green infrastructure.
