Optimization of potential analyses for renewable energies by integration of socio-psychological parameters

Initial situation

Especially in view of recent political developments, the energy transition in Germany continues to grow in importance. Although the expansion of renewable energies (RE) is a national goal, implementation at the local level takes place in close interaction with society. Therefore, the expansion can only succeed in consideration of social developments on a local scale. The current lack of an overall concept and the largely uncontrolled expansion of generation inhibit the acceptance of RE at the local level and make the implementation of the energy transition more difficult. This project idea therefore presents a cross-technology approach to develop a reliable perspective and an expansion concept for the implementation of the energy transition, which already includes societal parameters in the potential analysis for RE and thus makes a more realistic planning of RE expansion possible.

Goals of the overall project

The aim of the project is to develop an integrated methodology that integrates social acceptance parameters into technical modeling for RE potential estimation. The potential estimation developed in this way is more realistic than a purely techno-economic approach. This enables the creation of an overall concept for the expansion of renewable energies in Germany at the local level. With the help of this overall concept, the RE expansion can be controlled in a targeted manner in accordance with the population.

Tasks of the Institute

In the project, the Institute for Urban Design deals with the urban integration of technical facilities for energy production into the cityscape and landscape. In the course of the project, different design approaches are to be developed and their effects on social acceptance are to be investigated.
