Network: IDEA League Expert Working Group
The developments in knowledge societies, economy and cities have changed the typology campus from purely being a place of learning, to being an area for working and living, which pose new urban developing challenges to the whole city. Especially technical universities are growing and experience this phenomenon.
In the last years the Chair and Institute of Urban Design has been working intensively on the topic through the initiation and founding of the initiative "Urbaner Campus Mitte", for the betterment of the Aachen inner city campus, but also through other projects like the Leonardo modul "Wissen schafft Stadt (Knowledge Creates City)" in 2019. Now the topic of campus development will be explored on a European scale through the cooperation of the IDEA League universities and through the creation of an Expert Working group.
Following up on last year's IDEA League Summer School "Climate Change and University Campuses" and the Climate Combat Lab (CCLab), we intend to further expand the European discourse through the initiation of joint workshops on current healthy campus topics and problems of the IDEA League Universities.
This February, a kick-off workshop will create the first contact between the IDEA League universities for new teaching and research cooperations.
The goal is to create a European network for a joint Design Exchange and an European cooperation that generates new impulses for healthy campus development.
The start of the Expert Working Group about campus development will be held digitally on the 11th of February 2022, 10 am to 12 pm. The first meeting will be under the topic “Urban Wellbeing and University Campuses”
