Summer is here, it is getting very warm again these days. Which is not only positive: Because climate change, dense building development and extensive soil sealing are making our cities chronically hotter - they are becoming heat islands. Building materials such as stone, concrete and asphalt heat up quickly during the day and release the stored heat at night.

 

Vienna is a good example

Christa Reicher, architect and professor at the Institute for Urban Development at the RWTH Aachen University, is also networking internationally: "Vienna is a good example. Here, the Strategic Plan Urban Heat Islands 2015 was adopted and the measures were quickly implemented".
