Studied spatial planning at the Technical University of Dortmund (1972 - 77) with subsequent research on the land market, traineeship for urban development (1978 - 80), major state examination in 1980.
Afterwards working as urban planner in Dortmund, Bielefeld and Gelsenkirchen and from 2014 - 2017 as State Secretary in the Ministry for Building, Housing, Urban Development and Transport in Düsseldorf strategically and operationally involved in the design of urbanisation and transformation processes in NRW.
Special focus on the development of cooperative procedures of urban and regional development, the design of interdepartmental and inter-institutional planning and implementation processes and the further development of open planning methods - also in exchange with science and intermediaries for the transfer of knowledge into and out of the practice of municipal and inter-municipal governance.
Performing a wide range of supervisory board functions in municipal and state companies.
In addition, over decades of training and examination of urban planning traineeships and participation in many initiatives and organisation in urban and regional planning.
Currently active in teaching, advising municipalities and volunteering in professional organisations.
