The large availability of renewable energy sources offers enormous potential for the development of Latin America. With the help of decentralized energy systems, such energy sources can be made usable for a wide range of applications. Following the trend of Smart Grids, the Director of the Energy Center of the University of Chile and one of the principal investigators at the Solar Energy Research Center Chile, Prof. Rodrigo Palma-Behnke, will give insight on challenges and opportunities of decentralized energy systems in Latin America. Based on real word examples participative processes with technical solutions are presented as a key enabler for energy projects.
